March 25, 2016!
Hey guys!

My wife just got her PR yesterday (yay!), but since her VR ran out on the 18th, we applied back on February 20th for her to get a new one, since naturally we didn't know when the decision would be made, etc.

According to the GCkey site, the VR app isn't being processed yet, so we were wondering if we can cancel it and potentially also get the $100 application fee back.

From what I understand, I'd need to send some info to them via this page: https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx?_ga=1.40780066.1246955534.1404105284

Is that correct?

Also, I only just now realized she's got two UCIs--the one that came from her immigration application, and the one that was on her VRs. I'm guessing when I supply the UCI, I should probably give them the latter, right?

The other UCI is actually your UCI as the sponsor. Her UCI is on her COPR documentation. Yes you can get the $100 back, just follow these instructions: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=741&top=23

and congrats!

think she can cancel her vr renewal after she landed.

I did land first then called CIC to cancel my VR renewal application.

Great, thanks! Which UCI should I be giving in this case, then--the one off her VR or the one on her (now-validated) COPR? :0

(Btw, unrelated, but you gave us some reassurance back when we first submitted her PR application and it was hugely appreciated. Her app took almost exactly six months to go through, from the time the CIC received it in the mail to the date on the letter accompanying her COPR. Thank you so much for helping us keep up our courage!)

You sure she has two UCI numbers? It should be the same UCI on both documents... that seems odd (you looking at the application number maybe?). Maybe you can try phoning in and asking about that, if you do, call in the morning.

But glad I could help, and glad it went smooth for you :)

Yeah, it's definitely a UCI, and it's very different! The one issued for her PR app starts with 940 and this one starts with 670. I guess I'll use the latter, since it's the VR one and the VR app is the thing we're dealing with.

Non-essential reading, if you're curious:

She's been applying for VRs since before her PR app got submitted; she was given one when she first entered Canada last March, which was for under a month because the border guys wanted to be sure she was legitimately going to do all the immigration stuff and not be in Canada illegally, haha. (We had to come back with the proof of having been married, since we said that was happening that month, bring proof of her US bank accounts having funds still, etc., and she was then issued another.) The VRs, of course, had a UCI.

Anyway, she's had to get a new VR a few times, twice through the border (long story), and then in August through the CIC online. The one she applied for in August was good until March, hence the app we did in February.

Basically, she's had this VR UCI since before she applied for PR, and though we gave them that info when she applied for PR, she still ended up with a separate one for that somehow. I don't get it, either.

Did you have the same UCI for both your VRs and your PR app? :0

Yea, my husband has the same UCI all the way from 2006, on his old work permit and VR's. I guess the UCI you should put on the withdrawal would be the one you used for the renewal application (assuming you put one).
