Cancellation of a work visa - time period

I have resigned from my current company. In my passport i have a work visa from my current company which is valid till june-2013. They have sent the passport for cancellation of visa.

I wanted to know how much time it will take generally ? if any body having the same experience then pleas share ..

1. The company has no right to cancel the visa.
2. The passport is your and your countries property.
3. You could remain in Canada as a visitor until your work permit expires.

But currently i m india. So as a part of release process they usually cancelled any valid visa. So just asking if any one has epxerience the same. so tell me the time line.
