Cancel my study permit extension and apply for post graduate work permit

Hi,

I would like to cancel my study permit extension because of personal reasons. I won’t be attending a second program. Instead I want to apply for the post graduate work permit. I completed 1 year program.

How shall I proceed?

To rectify, I have already received an extension in my study permit because I was planning to go to school. I have changed my mind and I will withdraw from the program. I have already done a 1-year program in Canada.

I want to instead apply for PGWP. Is my study permit extension going to affect my PGWP application?

No as long as ypu are applying for PGWP within the 180 days.

You will have to look at the application for PGWP for all the details but you need to provide the graduation proof from your first program and include your transcripts.

I'm in the same scenario stated above, completed my 2 year diploma this year on 24 july, 2021, afterwards I decided to go for further degree and applied for study permit extension and I got the study permit extension on August 9, 2021. My college starts my from today Sep 07,2021 but all of sudden due to personal reason I wanted to go for PGWP instead of further studies. Can i still apply for PGWP as currlently I have study permit. If I apply for PGWP , will it affect my case?

No it will not. the requirement to apply for pgwp is:

Within 180 days of the date of applying for the post-graduation work permit, applicants must also meet one of the following criteria:

• They hold a valid study permit.
• They held a study permit.
• They were authorized to study in Canada without the requirement to obtain a study permit under paragraphs 188(1)(a) and (b) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.

So you are still within the 180 days of having held the old study permit even. I don't see any issue

I have a question. If you applied for student permit extension and waiting for the approval but then suddenly you changed your mind and applied for PGWP how about the working hours? Did you work as full time when you received your SP extension?

For Study permit extension full time work, you can’t work full time after you extended the permit that expired in 2023. The IRCC website says you must stop full time work when the original permit expires. But you can work full time after studying for a program provided that you have written consent from the school you finished from that you have completed and you have acceptance from a DLI that says you’ll be starting your program in 150 days and you must start that program.
