The more I look at CIC's processing time of 12 months, the more I wonder if I should cancel my husband's inland application and apply outland.

Any opinions?

If we apply outland, the total processing time is: 11 months.

We applied inland in January and as you all know... slow process. On the one side - the 12 months is coming to an end. On the other side, they could keep adding months to the stage 1 approval.

I don't know what is best for you but here are my two cents worth. You have already waited nearly 8 months out of something like 18-20 months it is now taking for inland applications. If you pull your inland app now it will take you the 11 months you mentioned in your original post. Add that 11 months to the nearly 8 months you have already waited and your time is pretty much the same overall. Also if you sent in an Open Work Permit with the application your spouse may be getting close to being able to work now, whereas if you canceled the inland app and went outland they would not be allowed to work until the get PR. I know for me, I have been in Canada a year now and only sent in our app in May, I am going crazy not being able to work or even go to school, this may also be the case for your spouse and they might/should be able to work sooner than the 11 months it would take to do the outland app. Also remembering it will take a bit of time to get the app together, not as long since you have everything, and get it sent in I hope these thought help you in some way.

If it was me, I would just stick with the inland app. You're already 8 months in, so just 3-4 months more to go until you get OWP. Then it's a bit of luck... as some people get inland stage 2 approval very quickly after OWP, and others wait 8 months or longer.

Also if your husband is not visa-exempt to Canada, the inland app with OWP app at least gives him implied status to stay here, where as with outland app he would need to keep applying for TRVs during the process.

Thanks to both of you for your opinions.

Hoping and praying that something will happen soon and that they 12 month timeline does not increase again.
