hello all

I have progressed with these forms and have some new questions.

IMM5481E Sponsorship Evaluation

I am having trouble figuring this one out.
If I have NO previous undertakings and I am submitting an application for the first time, and it is for my wife, do I just put this?

4. Yourself 1
5. Current Undertaking 1

.. and the form is done??

IMM5409E Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union

This form appears to be for people with somewhat complex situations where there is no certificate of marriage or perhaps they are living apart or its a same-sex relationship or something..? Do I need to fill this out? I mean, should I at least put n/a in all the boxes and print it out anyway? Since I am legally married I am not common-law right?

IMM5476E Use of a Representative

same as above - should I print this out and put n/a or just skip it?

IMM5540E Sponsor Questionnaire

For the question here about plans to re-establish, I have typed out a very detailed plan of what I intend to do with myself upon returning to Canada in terms of work. Obviously its hard to apply for jobs while still here in Japan but I gave as much detail as possible about how I plan to attack the employment issue.. is there anything else i can do here? I read that some people included letters from their parents saying their parents had their backs and stuff, should I also include letters from relatives here? (BTW we have no children)

For the questions about meeting/knowledge of spouse, I have also written out some separate stuff detailing our relationship. If I have a properly translated marriage certificate and photos and stuff, is that enough? Do I need like, bills or emails, phone records, or is that kind of stuff moreso for proving common-law in situations where you live apart, arent legally married, complex situations like that etc?

Lastly, I have resided outside Canada for the past 6 years in Japan - I assume I am now 'a Canadian citizen living exclusively outside Canada', correct? Any pointers for people such as me trying to convince the Canadian government I wanna come back to my own country? Incidentally, I recently relinquished and annulled my dual Japanese citizenship become solely a Canadian citizen - I assume a document stating this from the Japanese government would do me good in proving I want Canada to be my only home?

Thats all for now.
Thanks so much for any and all help.

Best regards,

J

First question, correct.

Second, statutory declaration is only to be filled out if there is a co-signer, and that person is your common law partner. Your wife is not a co-signer. So leave this form. And I don't know why you think same-sex couples would need to fill it out.

Third, leave use of representative out if you don't have one. Don't submit it

I will leave the last long part for someone else as I have to go

Cheers

Thanks for the quick response Graihn

First form.. I will leave as-is, thanks!

Second form.. I assumed it was a declaration of your relationship if you lack official marriage documentation. I only mentioned same-sex couples because in some countries they are persecuted and would have difficulty providing proof of relationship since they had to hide it, no offense or ignorance intended, but from the title of the form this is the image I got of which parties would need to fill out this form.

Third form.. will not submit at all, thanks!

You seem to have some good experience with this if you have time later I would greatly appreciate any input you may also have on the last questions as they are the trickiest.

Thanks again best regards,

J

This is concerned with your last question only.

Letters from parents are usually concerned with accommodation until you settle down: a letter from your parents to the effect that you can both stay with them until you have a place of your own would be useful.
Do include documents proving that you have lived together and form a family. One of CIC's concerns is that marriage should not be used as a lever to get into Canada; so they look for proof that the spouses lived together and had a normal married life. So joint bills, joint bank accounts, joint credit cards, communications with one another when temporarily apart and the like are all important in establishing the bona fides of the marriage. It is not just for persons who have not been through a ceremony of marriage.
You are indeed a Canadian living exclusively outside Canada. Your renunciation of Japanese citizenship is certainly relevant but CIC will also want information about more mundane issues such as how will you support yourselves, where will you live etc. As much detail as possible without going over the top!

Thanks for the info, I have a lot of that stuff so I will be sure to include it. It doesnt really tell you what to include or if you need any of that in the main forms, only in the common-law declaration form which doesnt apply to me.

Your comment on the necessity to demonstrate normal married life makes sense, I will be sure to keep that theme in mind as I move forward.

Best regards
