Hi future PR holders,

Filling out the PR application now and stumbled upon the question of is my child accompanying me in my PR application or not? He's a Canadian citizen by birth and is residing with me in Canada.

Thanks.

Not accompanying, as he is not immigrating. When your documents ask for his medical results, explain in your Letter of Explanation, and upload a copy of his Canadian birth certificate.

Thanks dobes,

Regarding his ID, He doesn't have a passport yet, only a Canadian birth certificate. Should i choose National ID and include the birth certificate number?

Thanks.

you don't put your son's name in the application as he is Canadian. You only put him in the form "additional family informaton" IMM5406E if you are require to fill it.
But when asked how many children does the applicant and spouse have, should I just count my children that are not PR holders or Canadians?

There is no form numbers. It is the start of the PR application for Express Entry.

It's the profile creation for a PR application after receiving an ITA.

in both situations you don't count your son as he is Canadian. In profile you give number of applicants for PR (you and all dependents without PR or Citizenship)
If you get ITA you will have to give his name in the additional family form as the information about your other dependents

We wrote that we have 1 child. The question is quite obvious 'Do you or don't you have any children?'. It doesn't ask 'Do you have children that aren't Canadian?', right?
So the true answer to the first questions is 'Yes, I have one child', but my child is not accompanying me (accompanying means 'for PR purposes').
It won't charge you for your child, but it will ask you for medicals. This apparently is a glitch with the system. Just write a letter of explanation (along the lines that your child is already a Canadian Citizen by birth, therefore is not applying for PR and doesn't require a medical exam) and attach his/her birth certificate.
If your child doesn't have a passport - select 'no'. If your child doesn't have national ID, also select 'no' (a birth certificate isn't ID.).

as there is no guide for EE profile (as it was before for each application) there is many different ways of filling some specific questions. I know that the way I explained works as my friend did that some time ago. They received ITA and have the DM on their application.
But the OP already received ITA. This is now post-ITA.

Thanks foreigngirl.

I choose no for both passport and id, but the form was marked as incomplete. I know that the application is flawed and not adapted to edge cases but this is ridiculous.

Thanks.

Upload an explanation letter instead of the passport/ID. Attach the birth certificate, too. Make sure the letter of explanation + birth certificate are one file. If you upload more than one file, then all the previous files will get deleted!

Exactly! I can't believe people are telling you not to count him as your child! When the form asks for your children, put him down. Then list him as non-accompanying, as he does not have to immigrate. It will ask you for his medical because the form is not yet adapted for Canadian spouses or children. You ignore that, write the letter of explanation and attach his birth certificate as proof.
