Helpful and depressing. 22 people who applied after me already have their passports. Why do they not process in the order the applications arrive...or would that make too much sense

What is the best way to get a status on passport application ? Is calling the customer center the only way ? Every time I call (Passport applied by mail from USA) there are about 500 callers ahead of me..

Don't be depressed. I feel you. There are many variables; officer, office, workload, etc... So, it's a matter of luck. Or may be because they requested you to submit new photos, if I am not wrong.

I think delayed applications means they are scrutinizing them more rigorously for some reason.

I called today 7:30 am EDT, there was 25 people ahead of me, and got through in 45 minutes. There seemed to be only one agent answering the phone.

Let's see if my complaint will do anything. I don't expect much from them to be honest. Their quality of service is very poor.

Why do not you request to transfer your file to the local office? is that doable?

It wasn't my intention. I just wanted to know if there is any issue with my file that it's taking so long. I was told nothing is wrong for now, but too soon to tell

Also, I know the Montreal office doesn't accept files right now, which means the file would be transferred to Montreal's suburbs, and I don't drive.

I wonder what is to scrutinize. The certificate is real, I'm a citizen and have a right to a passport. That's all they need

You are absolutely right. The passport is your right as a Canadian citizen. But unfortunately, the reality is they scrutinize selected applicants for some reason. Yesterday I filed a complaint in which I said if there is an issue in my application I would like to know what it is, otherwise why is the delay. Today I was told there is no issue in my application. So, it's definitely more scrutiny. We are being held hostages in Canada at this stage until Passport Canada decides we are humans with mobility rights. Have you filed a complaint?

I haven't filed a complaint but I submitted a status request over a week ago. Looks like they have decided to delay that as well.
It's funny my citizenship application took over 2 years to process. I finally thought I was done waiting but they managed to find a new reason
