Hi All
I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have read so many posts here that were useful to me and I believe someone out there probably have an idea of my issues. I am Canadian citizen living in Canada but I have 2 kids in Nigeria who are also Canadian citizens. They have not been to Canada before but I want to bring them to Canada in the new year or once my wife PR is approved. My question is how can I get my kids Canadian passport without travelling to Nigeria. Is it possible to apply from here or can the visa office issue them temporary travelling document? Travelling to Nigeria to apply for their passport and waiting for the process to complete will affect my job. Please help!

I believe your kids were born after you acquired citizenship. If so you have to apply for a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship as proof of citizenship for a child born outside Canada. Once you get it, apply for passport. In case of emergency you can apply for both together.

Thank you for your reply. But I have already applied and received citizenship certificates for them. My question is can I be able to apply for their passport here in Canada while they are in Nigeria?

Hi

No, they have to apply in the consulate in Nigeria in Person.. your wife as their responsible can apply on their behalf if they are minor, but they need to be with her and the certificates need to be with them.

It takes 20 business days to process the passports there, so I don't think they might make it by next week.
