Hello,
I am applying for the Canadian passport for the first time, I need to separate my first name into first name and last name. Do I just separate them and write them on the passport application form? What documents do I need to provide to support the name change?
Thank you

You would need a name change cert from the province plus a supporting document such as Provincial ID with the new name.

I am just separating my names, is the name change certificate still required? Also, how long might it take to receive anything from the province?

They wrote both the last name and given name as the family name on the certificate, that's why there was a need to change it
So in my case we had Family name listed as John Carter and Given name as XXX on Citizenship certificate so we had to go through the name change process in Manitoba.

Depending on the province where you are located you can either reach out to Service Canada or Vital Statistics office and they will be able to help you with the timeline on the name change process.

You may refer this on the name change process,

okay, so did you have to apply for the name change certificate to get your name separated into first and last name?

Yes you are correct had to deal with all the headache (Province for name change cert then updating all IDs and then the Canadian PP with updated name) just waiting on the final leg which is Canadian Citizenship Certificate.

Apparently yes, please check the above thread. One person has applied from UK, not sure what documents are needed.
