Canadian Marital Status?

Hello,

I recently got married over seas and am getting ready to send my papers to CIC for spousal sponsorship. Do I need to update the CRA to inform them I am now married? Or do I wait until after sending my application forms to CIC?

Once married, you should immediately update your CRA account, assuming you have an online account with them. If you don't, presumably you can call and update your information. CRA is unrelated to CIC for the most part, and definitely unrelated to any PR application.

Yes notify them ASAP if you don't it will lead to all kinds of tax mix ups. I waited to notify and I should not have and now I am paying the price ...taxes all messed up, over payment the federal side and non payment on the provincial side. Requests being made for my wife's SIN number and she has not even landed here yet.

Update your status and avoid the problems.
