Hey Qorax,

Thanks a ton so all the useful info u have been providing. Could you kindly throw some light on two more issues viz tax system in canada and schooling - being specific as most of us moving from the subcontinent have a different way of study in terms of the syllabus our kids follow, their approach towards study, etc. also i my case, my kid is moving into the 10th grade this year. I guess grades 11 and 12 are very important under canadian system. what curriculum do the public schools follow- is it IB curriculum or the Canada curriculum?? Also if one is a permenant resident- further college education fees are also reasonable i guess!! How is the environment in schools for our kids?? If you have done some research on these- kindly share it!!

Hi Dear,

Tax system:
About the Canadian Tax system, most of the info is available under this very forum in a separate section. I'm also yet studying & getting a grasp of it. And in the near future shall try to put some info 'in general terms'.

CANADIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM:
The Canadian schooling system is very similar to the British Curriculum. In general, Canadian children attend kindergarten for one or two years at the age of four [4] or five [5] on a voluntary basis. All children begin Grade-I at about six [6] yrs of age. The school year normally runs from September to the following June

Secondary schools go up to Grade-11, 12 or 13 [depending on the province]. From here, students may attend university, college or "Cégep" studies. Cégep is a French acronym for College of General and Vocational Education; and is two years of general or three years of technical education -between high school and university.

The Canadian education system has both publicly funded and private schools, from kindergarten through to pre-university. Education is a 'Provincial' responsibility under the Canadian constitution, which means -there are significant differences between the education systems of the different provinces. However, standards across the country are similar & basically high.

Higher Education:
Unfortunately higher education here do not come cheap. But is again set on very high standards & a Canadian Degree, Diploma, Certificate is globally recognized, at par to International standards, like that of UK, US etc.

Yes, the costs are different for the wards of Residents & to that for an International student. Once settled here, we should be able to manage this cost as well. Moreover, there are possibilities of education Loans, Grants, Scholarships etc.
