Hi, I have an urgent question here: my parents in-law obtained their Canadian immigration visa, but the principal applicant (my father in-law) passed away before landing. Can my mother in-law as dependent still enter Canada using the current visa? Many Thanks for your help!

My concern is: since my father in-law was the principle applicant, does it mean he must be the first person to enter Canada before other dependent? Because of his death, would my mother in-law as dependent have any trouble to go through custom once arrives?

You must inform the embassy regarding the changes in the family. In case you haven't read it, the papers issued with the visa specifically request that the applicants inform the visa office of ALL changes within the family that happen BEFORE they land (births, marriages, deaths, divorces etc). The embassy will advise them what to do. Not informing the embassy and attempting to use the visa constitutes misrepresentation and can get your mother banned from Canada for 2 years. Do you want that to happen? Email the embassy and ask them how to proceed.

Thanks for your advice!

I just emailed the embassy about this change. Just worry about how long they will respond. The expiry date of immigration visa is only one month left.

Bryanlibin, my condolences about your loss! And as someone who has aging parents in another country (alone) and trying to bring them here (4 year of waiting on 1st stage of sponsorship :-( ) I can empahsize what you - and your mom now - are going through...Hope it all resolves successfully for you...

I hope I am not being insensitive (really have no intention to be! ) - but maybe you can post what the embassy replies once you hear from them....Just wondering what their process is in such cases....(wish none of us ever has to go through such an experience ...)

Good luck again!

1. Straight forward, the mother would become the principal application. All the information as to whom to inform is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob369.asp

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. But as you can see this thread is 2 years old, and it's unlikely these members are still active on the forum.

You don't need to contact anyone here. You need to contact your visa office as soon as possible and let them know.

There is no way to see hidden email addresses here. If people have them hidden it means they don't want anyone here contacting them directly.
