Can someone please carify?
Students on post graduate permit unemployed are allowed to get EI if they stop because of COVID 19.
So why then are they saying the emergency funds are for CANADIANS. But Canadians are PRs and Canadian Citizens. I believe a minister says they will be catching up to people who fraudlently received the $2,000. starting within the next few weeks. So its not clear when it comes to non-canadians.
Rules are not clear for non-canadians

Can you receive the Canada Emergency Response Benefit if you are not a citizen or permanent resident?

To be eligible for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, you must reside in Canada and have a valid Social Insurance Number.

Workers who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents – including temporary foreign workers and international students – may be eligible to receive the Benefit if they meet the other eligibility requirements.

If you are not citizens or permanent residents your SIN starts with a 9. That itself will not be accepted by the system. How could you make your SIN valid?

EI and CERB both have pretty strict requirements. If you qualify you can apply but if you don’t qualify don’t apply.

Why would you think a temporary SIN wouldn't be accepted? It's fine to apply with a temporary SIN as long as you meet all of the requirements.

I was GUESSING because canadians got money quickly. But some international students who applied at same time didnt get there's yet.
When you apply with a temporary SIN starting with a 9. They also ask to see other CIC documents.. So i was thinking they need to check to see if the SIN is still valid. Maybe person under removal order, violated permit etc. etc.

Even if there is some extra verification people are still receiving money if they qualify.
