I have been living in Canada for nearly 5 years and in June 2011 submitted my application for Canadian citizenship. Based on the current processing times, I am told by the CIC that it will take approximately 19 months to process my application and I should receive my citizenship somewhere around November December 2012. From what I understand my documents are in order and are waiting to be transferred from Nova Scotia to the local processing office in Mississauga.

As they say - when it rains, it pours, and I was recently offered a job in the United States. My employer is willing to obtain an H1B visa, which will require me to relocate to the US around October 1 2012. I understand that if I proceed with the H1B process and move to the US, I will need to be ready to come back to Canada at a moment's notice to take the citizenship test and hopefully later - the oath. Since the time between my relocation to the US (October) and expected date of citizenship coming through (December) is fairly short, I don't anticipate having issues with getting my mail while out of the country.

The questions I have are these:
- can anyone who recently went through the citizenship process share the approximate timing of all subsequent steps from the moment the application is received by the CIC? How long does it take usually for the exam date to be scheduled? After that, how soon do you know the results and how soon do you take the oath of citizenship?
- is anyone aware of any issues pertaining to the H1B process for those who are awaiting Canadian citizenship? Does having the visa in your passport signal a concern to the border guards or the CIC?

I realize most folks think that only absences up to the application date impact the outcome of the application, however, I can imagine the application is evaluated as a whole package and even travel outside of Canada post application submission date can have an impact. Has anyone had experiences ith this?

Thanks in advance!

Let's hope your case goes through before October.

A couple of questions to you:

- Your employer in the US - is it a Canadian-based entity by any chance?
- Do you have a family? If yes, will they be moving to the US with you?
