Hi

How long does the process take from what I have read its about 17 months, did I get that correct? and then 3 years to apply for Citizenship.? Do I have to be living in Canada with my spouse during this time, I travel to see my family a lot, so I gather I have to stay put in Canada, (nothing wrong with that ) lol for 17 months or until he gets his Citizenship. Thanks for your help.

If you are Canadian, your spouse can accompany you to live outside Canada.

Steaky thank you

So we do not have to go to Canada and live until he gets his landed immigrant papers? I was reading on the Canadian website that we have to be willing to do so until his papers come thru..if you want I will it and paste it for you

what office will you be applying to Orchid if you are a Canadian citizen you can stay with your spouse in their country of residence until their papers come through. You do have to include in your application how do you intent to settle back into Canada this could be either thru school or work. Citizenship is 1095 days of the last 1460 days so 3 of the last 4 years yes you and your spouse can go on short trips of vacation as long as he remains his PR residency which is 2 of every 5 years.\

Vacations taken outside Canada during this time do not count toward the 1095 days.

If your spouse applies outland, then the processing time varies according to the embassy you go through. Canadian citizens can sponsor outland even if they are living outside Canada, so you could stay in your spouse's country while you are waiting for the application to be processed. He could also visit you in Canada during the processing.
If your spouse applies inland, he has to stay in Canada during processing. You don't technically have to be in Canada during the processing.
Inland takes longer than outland for almost all visa offices. Inland can take about 17 months. Where is your spouse from?
