Hello everybody I just joined this forum because I was looking for some info on the internet and found this forum. I hope I will find some help here. I am Canada citizen & currently I am staying outside of Canada and married here, My husband is not Canadian Citizen ( I haven't apply for my husband yet ). For some info I am not by born Canadian citizen went to Canada by Family class sponsorship so I was PR for 3 years and then I got Citizenship. I am currently residing in Bangladesh with my husband since February 2012 and we want to have baby so if my child born here what will be the status of my child ? Will my child be a Canadian citizen or do I have to apply separately for my baby? Looking forward to get a little help here. Thank in advance.

i'm quoting from another thread :

"If you are either born in Canada or you immigrated to Canada and were naturalized, your child will be a Canadian citizen. You would have to talk to a Canadian embassy when your child is born, apply for a citizenship card and once you get it, you can at any time apply for a passport for your child. If you need a passport faster than it takes waiting for the citizenship card (a year+), you can ask the embassy to issue a temporary passport as soon as you have applied for the card.

If you were not born in Canada and did not immigrate but gained citizenship because one or both of your parents were citizens when you were born, you can not pass citizenship to your child. In that case, if you want to move to Canada, you have to sponsor your child for PR."

Thank you kaboom786 for your quick response. Can you please post a source link where Canadian officials stated this ? I am really in big confusion please help me to clarify posting some more information and if you provide any details please be kind enough to share the link it will be great if I can take a look at that source too.

I have another question as I have described my current situation in my first post, is there any gov service I will receiving while I am outside of Canada as I am pregnant now and after childbirth ? Thanks

I like the reply above, maybe it was even copied from one of mine and still almost true except the waiting time for a citizenship card has now gone down to 8-9 months.

I do not know of a link where Canadian officials say exactly that but you can read that much if you look at the citizenship act or do the self-assessment at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/rules/index.asp punching in the data as if your child were doing it.

You would apply for a citizenship certificate for the child using these forms: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp

Thanks for you such informative reply. I took the test as if my child would do and the result is

Q. Am I a Canadian citizen under the new law?
Ans. Based on your answers, you are likely a Canadian citizen.
I have another question as I have described my current situation in my first post, is there any government service I will be receiving while I am outside of Canada as I am pregnant now and after childbirth like child benefit service ? Thanks

Nothing that I know of. There is child tax benefit but you and your child must be living in Canada for you to get that. If you have worked enough hours in Canada in the past year or so, you might qualify for EI maternity benefits but you must be in Canada to get that too as far as I know.

No - you would have to be in Canada to receive any benefits.
