My Husband is a Canadian citizen and I am a PR card holder which is expiring on 28th Nov 2017.
Summary of my visit :
1)Came to Canada on 2nd August,2012 and stayed till Mid May,2013 = Approx 9 months
2)Went to India along with Canadian husband and stayed from May,2013 to 10th August,2014 = Approx 15 months stay in India
3) Currently living in Canada since 10th August,2014 with my Canadian husband

I understand that to maintain the PR status I have to live PHYSICALLY in Canada for 2 years out of the 5 years.I want to go back to India with my Canadian husband due to emergency and will be staying in India for few years (approx 4 to 5 years)

Question is:
1) When I travel outside Canada with my Canadian husband will the time be counted towards those 2 years residency obligation, since I am with my spouse?
I have read on the CIC website that the time is counted if I am travelling with my spouse

2) Can the PR Card (Plastic card) be renewed from India?

Please provide your feedbacks.

Yes, time is counted as long as you are living or traveling with your Canadian citizen spouse. You could stay outside Canada with him for 10 years, and you would still meet residency obligations.

Just make sure when returning to Canada you carry proof of marriage, and if possible some proof you were living with him (in case they question you on it).

2) Can the PR Card (Plastic card) be renewed from India?

No, PR cards can only be renewed from inside Canada.

If your PR card expires while you're out of Canada, and you don't have a visa-exempt passport, then you need to apply for a PR Travel Document to board any flight back to Canada.

Thanks Rob
I have an Indian Passport so I may require a travel document to re-enter Canada.
I forgot to mention that I was previously given a travel document to travel to Canada when I came here in August,2012.
(I came in Canada back in 2001 but just stayed for 6 months and then returned back to India).I then came to Canada after 10 years by applying for the travel document.

So if I plan to come back after Nov,2017 (Expiry date of my Plastic PR card). Will I still be requiring to apply for the travel document again?

Yes you need a new travel document as I can't imagine an old travel document from over 2 years ago would still be valid today. You'll need to submit proofs of living with Canadian citizen spouse, to qualify for residency obligation to get the PRTD. Probably the same process you did last time.

@Rob - Yes the travel document has been cancelled when they gave me the PR card. Thanks for your reply
So to conclude I should say that I have already met my 2 years residency obligation since during my trip to India I was living with my husband and if i count from 2nd August,2012 till date = 29 months.

Now pr card renewal process time is around 5 months, also we need to give Canada address to receive the card.
