Hi everyone! Hope all is well with you all ;D my husband who is a canadian wanted to sponsor me (obviously) to go to canada, am here in New York and would love to leave the country just to be with him. Currently our dilemna is that he just lost a big client, he is only working freelance as an IT consultant, he's doing some small it jobs here and there, would that affect his application as a sponsor? Also, he lives in Quebec. I hear that the applications are quite different from any other cases. Thank you so much in advance for all the suggestions, advice and comments! have an amazing weekend to all! ;D

Working freelance is fine. The sponsor does not need any income at all to sponsor a spouse or common-law/conjugal partner, legally, but of course the visa officer does want to see that the two of you can support yourselves.

Thank you for responding to me, we were quite worried that they may ask a specific amount or in detail of how much he is earning. I am currently employed and will have to do so till we get approved. So far we have not done any applications yet because we were too confused and overwhelmed of the situation. We know that our case is not that bad yet, but we wanted to make sure of what were doing is right. Thank you again!

If you are being sponsored to move to Quebec, there is an additional process that takes place. Some of our Quebec residents will be more familiar with the process, but from what I understand, once your partner would be approved to sponser, then Quebec would require an additional approval process after which they issue a CSQ which would then be forwarded to Buffalo and your "applicant" process would start in Buffalo.

If I haven't got it quite right, I hope some of our Quebec friends will clarify. ;)

Thank you! Yes, my husband is currently living in Quebec and he is not quite sure about the immigration process, that's why am helping him out doing the research :p which is totally fine with me. I hope your Quebec friends can help us resolve some issues regarding the application. I know a little a bit of french, I used to study french but since of lack of practice I have somehow forgotten all about it. Am filipina, born in the philippines but now living in new york for 11 years. And I don't mind studying french all over again if its really "required" just to live and work in Quebec.

Hi there,

I found the following link that should help you with the Quebec requirements:
http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/en/index.html

And in case you haven't found the sponsorship forms for the Canada process, here is that link:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp#sponsor

If you are being sponsored by your spouse or partner, you do not necessarily need to know French, but you must agree to the following statement: "I DECLARE that I wish to live in Québec within the framework of and abiding by its common values, and that I want to learn French, if I do not speak it already."
