Hi,

Is there anyone in the group that's a Canadian citizen that went to the US on H1B ? I recently got my I-797 approved, i want to know what documentation should i take as i go to the border.

Thanks!

I don't have the answer to your question but i have a question for you. I am considering moving to US for a short term. While TN is what i found to be preferrable choice, why did you go for a H1B? What is the advantage. Good luck to you.

The only advantage I see is that one is eligible to apply for US permanent residency when on H-1B status. This can't be done on TN-1 status.

You probably need to get the H-1B visa stamped in your passport from a US embassy in Canada, because you need a business visa to enter the US? That's the standard procedure for everyone. I'm not aware of any exceptions to it for Canadian citizens.

You should talk to your company lawyer. Usually they put together a stack of papers with all that is required (or nice to have).
You need to take as many documents as possible, especially the first time. Job offer, degrees, transcripts, I797, etc

The border agent will ask for your i797 when you tell them that you want to enter on H1B. They will stamp your passport with end date (based on i797) and that's all. i94 will be electronic and will be available almost immediately online.

I was not asked any questions by the border agent. If you have NEXUS, ask the agent to update it there and then.

Is this only valid if you are going from Canada to US or also from any other country ? lets say India.

Thanks . If you don't mind have you experience or any knowledge for entry process for dependant ?

No sorry, my wife and I both have independent H1Bs. I think for H4, you might have to show marriage certificate?

Do you mean the CBP officer can update your NEXUS profile with the new I-94? (no need to go to an enrollment center to update?)
thanks.
