another thing i wanted to tell you is PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR COURSE selection..you simply cant change your course after coming here...some may tell its easy( consultants), but my experience is that it just dont happen...my friend lost all his money and is now clueless as he believed everythong his consultant told him.

select a asuitable course and a place where cost of living is less..bring money for your entire course from india for living.NEVER expect to fill your fees by doing part time.YOU HAVE NO CLUE about the hardships here.

Ottawa is the capital, located at the border of Ontario-Quebec; typically colder than other Southern cities of Ontario. It houses most of the government embodies and is generally expensive for living. It has nice demography though and only 2 hour drive to/from Montreal.

Hey thanks for the reply. Its a safe city?

Every major/metropolitan city will have some shady places. Ottawa will be one of them. Besides, I haven't heard of any Canadian city really unsafe to live. There are few places in a city which concern most people to live (i.e. drug problems, homeless people, Govt. housing, cheap bars/clubs etc.).

MoneySense has ranked Ottawa the best city to live in Canada for 3 years in a row (2010 to 2012). It just lost its 1st place to Calgary, AB this year.

And normal basic necsties expenditure would be what? Like just approx

hidden initial expenditures like rent advance for the last month, bus card, any clothes you find amusing, furnitures for your apartment,
bed,blanket,...household items, personal items....i thought i wont have to shop for a year as i had done extensive shopping in india...but the things i brought from india are still locked in my luggage....

if you can....try to brong as many food items ,masalas...snacks to survive the long process of Port Of Entry,..

another important thing...

Buy quality, sturdy travel luggage....dont be foolish like me...when i got my luggage at toronto, the handles of my trolley luggage was BROKEN...we can blame mishandling by the crew...but i had to carry it all around toronto.

thank GOD i spent some time at the gym in india..

i had applied under general....showed a letter of financial support from my father, bank passbook photostats of him,..then a bank loan sanction letter..enough...applied on the last day(aug 1 ) and got visa in 22 days

CIC FAQ: I want to change my school or program of study. How can I change my study permit?

Post-secondary Student

  • You may change your school, program and/or field of study without applying for a new study permit. You do not need to apply for a change to the condition of your study permit, either. You may continue to use your study permit as long as it is valid.
  • If you are changing your level of study (e.g., bachelor's to master's), you do not need to apply for a change to the condition of your study permit, either.

Hello bradshaw!!!
thank you for providing useful information. However I request you to provide more information about difficulties in changing the course after arriving in canada. It would be great if you share the experience and enlighten the factors may cause problem. I have heard that while clearing immigration at Canada airport, immigration officer staples study permit paper in the passport of some students with name of the college on it which may cause problem in changing course, is it right?

Regards.

If this is the case with changing courses, it should be really very very difficult to change the level of study, from PG to masters? Is it not advisible ? Is there any other implication apart from the chances of losing money? Does these things really work out or should I simply go ahead with what I have?
