Hi -

I am 20/male. Wanting to apply for a tourist visa... can anyone tell me what the requirements are or any checklist of documents.

I just need to go for a week or so and that would be all.

Before making your application, take time to read as many posts as you can regarding REFUSALS. Learn from their mistakes and make your first application a strong one. It seems that once you get a refusal, it is even harder to overcome that in the future. STRONG TIES to your country and compelling reason for trip to Canada, adequate finances (don't just show them the minimum you would need to finance the trip) are all areas for which you must provide solid documentation. Is your country part of a youth holiday programme? Good luck.

Well - i will be honest.

I am Studying in IIPM Chandigarh and just giving exams for my First Year... so, for obvious reasons... i am tied to coming back.
I don't really have any Major assets to show as a student... i was hoping to use some of my dad's documents.

He owes some good amount of property, Good Bank Balance and Of course a manager Income Tax Return for last 3 years.

We have also paid my college fee upfront for next two years of my graduation... i am not sure if that makes a difference..

I am just doing to meet my girlfriend who moved to Canada a year back.

I am not an expert, but I've been around this block a few times. Be VERY careful about the wording of your friend's invitation letter. Coming to see your girlfriend in Canada may appear to them as a TIE to CANADA which could overwhelm other ties to your country. Anything your father has done will not be of much value to prove YOUR ties to the country. And, if your Dad is comfortably off, showing that your tuition fees have been paid for two years is not that significant, so it may be best not to mention your Dad's situation. Do you see where I am going here? Almost anything you can think of that feels like a positive tie to you can be viewed the other way around by the VO and frequently is. That is why I suggest you read everything you can about the rejections so you avoid the traps. It IS extremely sad and frustrating when you know in your heart that you will return to write your exams (that is a good one to include), yet there is no way to know if they will accept or reject your request. Is there anyway you can tie in your trip with your studies??? I don't know what subject you are taking, but would it be likely that you could futher your education in Canada, are there specialized courses in your field here that would not be offered in your country, or something like that? Could this trip be a chance to check out Canadian institutions. I don't know the merits of this, but see what others think?

Pippin -

i appreciate the genius reply and being straight forward.

FYI!
My College has already scheduled for a trip to Singapore in April and another one to the US after 2 years (in my final year). so we are good on that.

They do not have plan to get a trip to Canada at all. I am not sure if tying it to my studies would do any good. but still... What do you see the biggest assets will be other that what my father owe here already?

I just read out your post to Mr Pippin, lol, and he said that including the information about having a university trip to attend in Singapore in April could be a tie....but my mind is thinking that Singapore will happen BEFORE you plan to come to Canada. You COULD say that your uni has organized trips to Singapore and the US, but not Canada, and you want to do some of your own research. It has to be compelling. WHY would you prefer to do the course work in Canada over the US? Can we make any headway on this idea?
