Hello All,

I am planning to apply Canada visitor visa for my parents. In case of my father the name on passport is slightly different from name on investment documents. E.g name on passport is SHANKAR DATTA JOSHI and name on financial documents is SHANKARRAO DATTA JOSHI.

I am putting SHANKARRAO in 'other' name used field.

In such situation to show strong ties to home country I am planning to submit copies of financial documents. Because name is different should I submit name change affidavit ? Or is it not required?

Thanks,
Pardes

Hi,

You can give an explanation that the name stated in the passport and on the financial documents are of the same person..... this can be cross-verified/proved in many other ways like the PAN Card number, address, etc on the financial investments.... else, letters to this effect can be issued by the financial institutions if it is not evident on those financial investments

For the name change process: one has to prepare a notarized affidavit stating the change in name..... publish this in two local newspapers..... then publish the name change in the official gazette of the state where your dad resides.... and finally change all documents, bank accounts, etc. to the new name. It's a lengthy and time consuming process to go through unless it is really necessary.

In India, the father's name or husband's name is unwittingly added as middle names by various government/financial/etc authorities..... which "changes" the real name of a person..... however, what matters more is the given name (as in the birth certificate) or the passport/PAN Card, etc

Cheers :)

Hello,

I have a question: does spaces in name call for an affidavit? My passport says my fathers name is ABCDEF but in his passport the name says ABC DEF. The spelling is all the same but there is a space. Should I get an affidavit?
