I am from India. My father (US citizen) has sponsored us for USA Green card (PR) under F3 category in October 2003. Our file may be processed after 3 years as per current priority date. I got Canada PR in June 2011and stay there 3 weeks. Now I am planning to stay in Canada. Weather I have to transfer my US sponsored file to Canada or can continue from India?

To get USA green card (PR) I have to surrender my Canadian PR or not? I want to hold Canadian PR and USA green card (PR) at a time. Is it possible as per rule?

Please reply anyone who knows.

I am not familiar with US immigration law so I do not know if you have to notify them that you move to Canada.

Holding PR's in two countries can be difficult. To keep your Canadian PR, you must stay in Canada at least 730 days any 5 year period. You have already stayed 3 weeks so you need another 23 months plus 1 week before your 5 year landing anniversary. To keep a US PR, you can not be outside the US for more than a year at a time, preferably 6 months. If you can combine the two, you might be able to do it. Say you visit your family in the US every 6 months but live and work in Canada, you kind of fulfill both requirements. However, if the immigration officers see that you have a PR and a Green card, they may tell you that you can not have both and must give one up. However, as far as I know there are no concrete rules on that in either country.

You could of course stay in Canada for 3 years and then apply for citizenship.
