Canada entry from UK

I am a UK Citizen, I have family in Canada (uncle,aunt,cousins). In 2010 I arrived into Canada but I was turned back because I had a DUI in 2006 (I did not know about DUI convictions then).

In 2014 I got a 2nd DUI (with a 4 year suspended prison sentence, I know - I was going through a tough phase, but I am now sober since then).

If I want to visit my family what can I do about this? I know what I did in the past is wrong & I was just stupid.

Any help/advise is much appreciated.

Start by reading here but with such a recent DUI and a suspended sentence could be a long time before you can enter the country http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/conviction.asp

Yes I understand. I am a bit confused because looking at a temporary resident permit it mentions about have convictions for 5 years or so! ??

You're inadmissible to Canada at this time because of your DUI. The earliest you'll qualify to apply for rehabilitation is 2019.

Without rehabilitation, your only option for entering Canada is the TRP. These tend to be difficult to get and you must have a good reason for needing to enter Canada. You can certainly try applying for a TRP. This is something you would need to do from outside of Canada.

1. Actually it will be longer than 2019, as he got a 4 year suspended prison sentence, which means, that won't be over until 2018, so another 5 years after that, or 2023 before he can apply for rehab.

Count ahead five years from when that suspended sentence ended. That's when you qualify for rehabilitation. So either 2019 or 2020.

If you want to come to Canada before you're approved for rehabilitation, the TRP is your only option.
