Hi everyone
I'd like to know what to do in this situation: I stated I have no income in the Canada child tax benefits application . I am not working since I landed 2 months ago. But the father of my son sometimes sends him money so my bank kinda know I'm getting some income. Am I in a situation or my son still qualifies for the child tax benefits? Thanks

You landed as a PR? Your child is under 18 years old? Those are two of the things you need to be eligible.

I think your best bet is to call the CCTB and talk to a rep there. They will be able to tell you if you qualify. The amount is based on your taxes. Since you have not been in Canada for the most recent taxation year (2012), I am not sure what they will do.

This is the toll free number for CCTB

The bank has no bearing on this. Although it will show/document the amounts and dates received for you. You will have to claim the amounts your sons father sends (or it is fraud), and if it is sporadic then explain your situation.

There are also other subsidies that may be available to you. Universal Child Tax is one, but your child has to be under 6 to qualify for that.

Thanks. I spoke to them and it doesn't matter I wasn't here for the most taxation year as they will get my husband's taxes to calculate our payment. Thx

After 1997 you do not have to report child support payments

Plus, their web-site says to apply "as soon as possible once you are eligible", so no time to wait for next tax season. They suggest that you apply here:
