Can you transit USA to Canada on an ESTA?

Hi all,

I have a valid ESTA (USA) and an eTA(Canada). I am planning to transit via USA (either flight or rental car) and enter Canada as a Student.

Is it ok to do this? I thought ESTA is only for 90 day stay in North America and entry to Canada will not reset the 90 day counter when we go to Canada.

Appreciate your help in clarifying this.

Hi Blue truck, Entry as a student. The kids have study permit approvals as well and the Mrs has a work permit approval.
