I need to renew my OHIP (it expired 1 month ago), and I was wondering if I can renew using my COPR letter? I haven't landed yet, but I'm an inland applicant, and I currently live and work in Ontario

Thanks!
Pete

Yes, you can. But you need to land first. Just bring your signed CoPR to service Ontario - should not be a problem. You also can use CoPR to get a new permanent SIN.

I did it yesterday. But Service Ontario said I have to wait 3 months to use my new health card..

They said my old health card expired 3 months ago so I have to wait. But It does not make sense and I did not agree with agent. I was on implied status from Oct until I landed. I was working all the time and I did not go out of country. Why I am not eligible now.

Dont know what to do. :(

The Ontario health system is broken. I have a similar issue due to fact that my job's longer than average probationary period. Did you manage to get a resolution to the issue?

In this situation, you have to wait 3 months. Thats clear, and nobody can / will change that.
At the office you need yor landing record, and it will be the best to aply for a new healt cad asap after getting your landing record.
When you wait for three months, and aply then, you have to show again that you where in Canada in the meantime after landing, and that could be more difficult for some people.
Wish you a healthy 3 months.

I agree, this is not correct - agents do not always get it right. The 3 month waiting period only applies to NEW residents, and former residents who are returning to Ontario. Neither applies to you (based on what you wrote above). If you did not leave Canada and you maintained your status (which you did), you should not be subject to another 3-month waiting period.

You should try again, but in addition to all the required documents for the OHIP card, you need to bring proof that you remained employed throughout and are still working for the same employer. A letter from your employer, and paystubs for the time you were on implied status to present should be sufficient. If you still have problems, go do a different Service Canada, or get help from your MP's office.

When in implied status, you reside in Canada, but you don't have any status other that " implied"
That means when you become a permanent reident after implied status, you are a " new " resident.
Therefore you get the three months waiting time again.
I was in 3 differtent service ontario offices and they told me everywhere the same rules.
Even when you get a good search on the inernet you will find out these rules.
I know it is not understadable, but it's the truth.
Everybody who got a health card earlyer, got only good luck.

WRONG. you have valid temporary worker status when you are on implied status. But it is difficult to explain this to a Service Canada worker who has little experience with this.

That means when you become a permanent reident after implied status, you are a " new " resident.
No, that is not true, your status changes from temporary resident to permanent resident.

Therefore you get the three months waiting time again.
I was in 3 differtent service ontario offices and they told me everywhere the same rules.

I too struggled to renew my OHIP card after a period on implied status. Initially, I was not able to get my new OHIP card in the office, but had to contact a supervisor, who approved it. The second time I had to do it, all the staff understood about implied status, then no problem.

If you don't realize that you have valid temporary status when you are on implied status, then you won't be able to convince OHIP either.

On the other hand, for some reason a lot of people mistakenly believe they are on implied status if they have a PR application pending, which is not true. You are only on implied status if you apply to renew a work/visitor/study permit before the old one expires.

But to be certain, were you actually on implied status? Did you apply to renew your temporary work or visitor permit before your old permit expired?
