Hey guys,
I have a question related to this. Next year I will have a LMO for Canada and H1B for US. I am a consultant and will travel to the US on a weekly basis.
When reading through this post it seems to be a hazard. As a German I normally don't need a visa (vistor visa or in my case work permit).

Do you guys know if I need a travel document for each week I am leaving Canada until I get my PR card?

Thanks
Ino
Nope, I dont think so, you dont need a travel document as you are from VISA exempt country.

I read the link that you put in this thread but I am not sure I fully understand (sorry if asking this another time): the website states you need a "travel document" and then redirects you to PR card. But: if you are from a visa exempt country travel document would also be a passport? So basically, you could enter WITHOUT a PR card as long as you have your passport?

Also, is it still the case that CIC sends you your permanent resident card 4 to 6 weeks to your Canadian address after you landed?

thanks and I hope you all had something nice and sweet in your Christmas calendar today :)

I think that the current delay on PR card delivery is running at about 90 days at the moment.

hm. that's what I thought. Any ideas on the rest of my question (regarding the travel document)? thanks a lot :)

This is what is usually meant by the term "Travel Document" when related to permanent residents. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp

thanks. so that basically means that if I dont have a PR card I cannot travel. but might have to wait 90 days or more until I receive a card.

based on cic site, current processing time for PR card is 61 days.

see: www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-card.asp

you may be able to request for urgent processing if you can attach proof of travel.
That's more encouraging.. The time does seem to change quite often. I see for renewals that it's at 85 days.

This means I should get my card in about 3 weeks.

:'(
I just Landed on last Sat.,however, i booked my bus ticket to NYC 1 month ago.
I am going NYC on Dec.31.2013 while awaiting my PR cards.

can I come back to Canada with my receipt of landing?

Since you are going by road, you probably should be fine.

You'll need PR card to enter by bus. See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=064&t=10 .

Other option is to rent a car at the border.
