Hi everyone,

My passport will be back with COPR in 10 days or so. Then I plan to do the landing right afterwards. My question is that can i go back to home country after landing but waiting for PRcard (avg 2-3 months of waiting time)? After landing, will my work permit still be valid?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Jessie

Yes you can go back to your home country, but how are you intending to re-enter Canada?
Your work permit is void as soon as you become a PR. You can't rely on it after that.
During the landing procedure, any other Canadian visas in your passport should be cancelled.

AFAIK, you could always re-enter even before you get your PR card, you still have the PR VISA and the COPR document with you along with the confirmation of landing.

However, if you could wait until you get your PR card, that will be safe.

Jessie,

You need a travel document to come back.

Refer to the following official link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=064&t=10

The "PR visa" I think that you are referring to is the IM -1, which if memory serves me correctly, is a single use only. It will not get you on the aircraft once you have "landed".

No, your work permit and Canadian visa (TRV, PR visa) will no longer be valid.

You will need to obtain a travel document or travel to your home country and land on your way back.

See this link for details: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=064&t=10

This is probably a stupid question but does this still apply if you are from a VISA exempt country? I travel for work on short trips to the US (via air) fairly regularly so I'm worried this could become an issue for me once I've landed depending on how hard it is to organize a Canadian travel document when you are only in the states for a few days at a time.

I dont think so, since you are from VISA exempt country, you should not have any problems getting back in.

Hey guys,
I have a question related to this. Next year I will have a LMO for Canada and H1B for US. I am a consultant and will travel to the US on a weekly basis.
When reading through this post it seems to be a hazard. As a German I normally don't need a visa (vistor visa or in my case work permit).

Do you guys know if I need a travel document for each week I am leaving Canada until I get my PR card?

Thanks
Ino
