CRA fined my husband bc he didn't give them my SIN. He told them I'm a visitor so I don't have one and they told him to call Service Canada...

He lives in Quebec btw.

No, you are not able to.
You can read through the below link and it tells you what sort of proof you need to be able to apply for one, and based on what you've said here I don't think you qualify to apply or one.

You can get a tax ID number, if you are a deemed resident (which is probably what CRA is having an issue with).

yeah that's the same information I found so I'm confused what cra wants us to do...

I'm here as a visitor. And I got a visitor extension but it never said I'm allowed to work so I can't get a SIN with that.

Yeah maybe...

Did your husband file taxes when you were married and staying in Canada ?If so he was able to collect deductions from you being a dependent as such .They frigging well get you all ways .How much did they fine him?

Yes. We got married August of last year and filed taxes in April.
He got fined bc we missed a letter cra sent to us in July asking for my sin number. We never got the letter though.
They said if we give them the information they will pay back the fine to us but I don't have sin so we don't understand what they want us to do...

I don't understand the problem though. I was able to claim my wife as a dependent while she was waiting for PR to come through. Didn't even need to have SIN or tax ID. Nothing.

Same here, this past tax season they ASKED for my SIN but my husband called CRA and told them I was in the process of immigrating and had been in Canada as a visitor so I didn't have one. That cleared it up and there was no problem.

Damn... we told them I'm a visitor and we're waiting on my pr. They still just told my husband to call Service canada.
