Hello Seniors,

I just landed at the US border, and waiting for my PR card, which is going to take probably two months or longer. I have to go back to China by the end of this month, am I able to coming back by using COPR? How come it says: not valid for travel?

Please advice. Thank you!

Assuming you are not from a visa exempt country, you will need a travel document.
Your alternative is to fly into the US and cross the border in a private vehicle, in which case you can use your COPR

Thank you IPC. What I mean is I already landed, can I use that paper the officer signed if I go back to my own country and come back?

Try to apply for expedited PR Card (it's on the CIC website). You have to be leaving within more than 3 weeks and have itinerary (flight receipts).

Expedited cards are only for existing card holders applying for a replacement. North steely there is no way to expedite a new card.

I understood your question:: You still need a travel doc if you don't have your pr card and only have your COPR, even if you are already landed.

You could, at least that's my understanding.
There's nothing there to indicate it's only for replacements:

You can also apply for urgent processing if:

you will travel outside Canada very soon, and
you do not have a PR card, it has expired or will expire soon.

NOPE!
you should have either your pr card or travel document with you when you enter canada again.
CoPR can be used but only when youre travelling between US and canada with non-commercial vehicle.

Thank you everyone for your help. if I apply for a re-entry visa to come back, would that work?

TRVs do not apply to permanent residents.

You need to apply for a Travel Document (Permanent Resident Abroad)

And I wonder why did not wait until returning back from the China for landing purposes...

The best case scenario for you was to land on your way back to canada after your trip.
But it's too late for that now and there's nothing you can do.

You'd have to apply for a travel document while you're visiting your home country,
however it also depends on how long you'll be staying.

So here are your options for now:
1. Postpone your trip so you can travel with your PR card.
2. Go to your home country as you initially planned. Apply for a travel document as soon as you get there and stay there until you receive your travel document.

3. Get someone to courier your PR card to you in China.

That's true. I didn't think of that :)

Well, I don't know how long you're staying but it looks like the processing time is around 4 weeks.

Thank you everyone. I guess I will have to get a travel document. :(
