Can we trust consultancies while doing a IT job search ??

I am looking for a job as a Java Developer in Toronto area.

Have posted my resume in job search sites.

A consultancy scheduled a meeting with me !! Is it safe to go via consultancies for a job ?

Kindly advise.

Give full details of the consultancy because someone here may have used them before.

Many consultancies are scammers and will charge big fees up front. Be very careful.

They aren't listed in the Better Business Bureau's website. That doesn't necessarily mean they are bad (they could new) but I would proceed with caution.

If they promise you a job (as in guarantee: "You give us X dollars, we guarantee to find you a job" - IMPOSSIBLE) or ask for big bucks up front, run away. A legit business will always be honest with their fees and let you decide at your own pace. If they pressure you, even as a legit business, they are practicing immoral business behavior and can be reported to the government.
