Can we survive in Canada with our plan?

Hi everyone,

Can you please help us with our decision? My family are planning to immigrate to Canada. Me, my wife and our 3 year old daughter. I will be an international student in Toronto while my wife will have open work permit.. Is it a good or bad decision?

Coz we are a bit scared if we can survive with 14Cad minimum wage? And the rent and food is expensive there. My wife will be working full time while I only have 20 hours per week to work. How much money should we bring? And can we manage to work both for us to have more income and have a little savings?

Anyone here who is already in Canada who are in the same situation like us?

Only comment would be are you budgeting for child care which will be very expensive on top of any rent and living expenses.

Financially, I don't know if it is possible since I don't have a kid or am not married. However I can give you an idea about living in Toronto and the costs associated.

Downtown Toronto impossible to find a room (not an apt) for under 800
Outside areas can probably find a room for 600 if you look hard enough. But these are for singles
For an apt. I think you're looking between 1200-2000 per month. Cheapest tuition being 18-20k a year. Groceries probably 500-1000 a month. TTC (Transport) 120CAD a month. Childcare I don't know but I heard its expensive.

You are required to have atleast 13000 for a year as an individual I am guessing a family probably 20000 for a visa. Note applying as a family is a high chance of denial.

You wouldn't be immigrating. You would be coming as temporary residents.

With minimum wage jobs, no, your plan really isn't feasible unless you are coming with a significant amount of money already. Even if you work the max hours and your spouse works full-time, with entry level jobs, you would barely even cover childcare costs and rent; just those 2 expenses will likely be a minimum of $30,000 per year, and that is quite conservative.

Also remember that visa/permits for families of international students are no guaranteed. You will have to show that your family will be able to survive financially.
