Can we send our marriage cert. later?

My husbands police certificates are going to expire on Sept 3rd, we have most of our Outland PR package ready to go, the only problem is our marriage certificate hasn't arrived yet. Is it possible to send in our package along with a letter saying we will send our marriage certificate when we get it? Or is there a big chance that it could get lost?

It's a tough call. It is strongly recommended to send in a complete application (and pay all fees up front) for the best chances of speedy processing. However, there are several cases of people sending in applications that are missing some documentation and CIC simply later asked for it and it didn't delay the processing too much, especially if you are allowed to e-mail an electronic copy vs having to snail mail the original physical doc.

Personally, I would suggest getting another police certificate and sending everything together at once. But it is up to you on if you want to take the chance of going ahead with sending in an incomplete one and hope for the best.

I'm not sure about that. When I mentioned "electronic copy", I meant scanning your marriage certificate to a PDF and the e-mailing that PDF to the visa office.

When I applied for my marriage cert in Ontario we were initially sent what turned out to be a copy of the marriage licence.

Lawyer pointed that out to us when we sent all our stuff to them to check. They filed the application without it. Once I got the actual cert I forwarded a scan of it to them and they sent it on to CIC.

Didn't seem to be a problem for us. Not giving you that as "official advice" though as the checklist is pretty clear that the application should be complete.

Hi there. we mailed our application without medical, 19 days after, they sent back our application. They said that our application is incomplete so they cannot process it, but the same can be refiled. It is ok at least we have now the chance of incorporating my medical.We will resubmit this week.

I'm thinking maybe what we can do is just wait for the marriage certificate to arrive, and then send in all the documents (even the expired police certs.) with a note attached saying that we are in the processing of obtaining new police certs and will send them once we recieve them? It might take a little while to get these police certificates because my husband can get 2/3 online, but needs someone to get his 3rd one for him in Brazil and mail it to us.

We are returning your application to sponsor a member of the family class which you submitted to this office. We have not processed your application because it is incomplete, application must contain the minimum required information to be considered “complete”.Only complete application will be processed.

This application is incomplete;you will find details of the item(s) that are missing from this application.

Medical documents

Your entire application package along with all requested documents/information, and a copy of this letter must be resubmitted in order to be processed.
