I'm trying to make a survey from prospective immigrants to Canada. Given we don't have relatives and friends in Toronto, do you think we can find an entry or any job in Toronto within 3 months after we have landed? What's your answer?

My initial plan was to land in Toronto, and I've talked to some friends that have already settled there regarding job opportunities, they said that it might take a while before getting a job after arrival. There may be lots of survival jobs, but there are also a lot of new immigrants.

It might also depends on your experience, some were able to land a job in their field just weeks after landing, but most settled to minimum wage jobs for several months and I assume maybe a year

I'll follow this thread as I also need some info about Toronto in terms of jobs.

I chose Toronto before because of the fact that it is the safest city, lowest crime rate.

I think it all depends on individual's specific profile.

Quite interesting thread it is, waiting for more feedback from all seniors and intellectuals. Hoping this thread will go a long way, so that more facts and information we can gather on job scenario.

I think it will be hard to find a job that matches your job (especially if your are already in a management position), but if you won't be that choosy and would want to have a job for survival, I think it would be quite easier.

Btw, this is a nice thread that will be useful in time for our settlement in Canada.

wow, this will be a helpful thread especially so that there are many of us who wants to immigrate to Toronto. Most of my relative are in Toronto and i'll be going there too. According to them there are a lot of survival job if you are not choosy and you will be able to land on a job with your qualification after quite sometime, have patience, but you needed some sort of connection in order to know the jobs availability... :)

Thank you for your replies to this thread. Now I'm on my final stage of submitting my documents to the Manila embassy. I am having fears of what my job will be once I arrived in Canada. At 36 years old, I am already occupying senior management position in the Philippines and my job in the Philippines is stress-free. I asked this question because if i cannot find a job in Toronto within three months then I am thinking of returning back to the Philippines and get my job back.

I hope those who arrived in Canada 3 months ago, hope you can tell us if you were able to find a job in three months or less. By the way, for those giving opinions to this thread, please indicate if your'e in already in Canada or still in the Philippines so we can distinguish. Thanks and God bless prospective immigrants to Canada.

Quite an interesting responses, but still wondering y everybody talks of survival jobs. I think the day we decided we are migrating to Canada (Toronto) we know the fact that survival jobs are plenty. Let us not talk about survival jobs, but talk about our field in which we are expertise and have spent a quite lot of time. By the way myself waiting for PPR nd hope to get good opening once landed in our dream land. Keeping fingers crossed.

All the best to all job seekers. Thanks

I read one article that states, "The new Canada immigration policy got 2011 is to invite the best and brightest prospective immigrants around the world." If we are among those considered to be the best and the brightest prospective immigrants then I hope we can use our talents and learned skills where they are supposed to be?

from my friends who are already settled in canada say that, they find a job within a month provided you do your credential evalution in advance before reaching canada and some say that they get number of options to choose from, but those jobs maynot be the one as you get in your native country, for people who r flexible to go with any job profile until they find a right one without wasting much time and money they are lucky and the heaven open the doors!...regards...

This is pipoy from the Philippines. We are on the same boat. I too am not that young anymore. Am a manager in finance. I know that it would be hard for me to land on the same job if am going to Canada. Luckily, I have also studied Culinary Arts which I am eager to pursue. I am also planning to undergo massage training so that I will be fully equiped when I go there.
