Hello,

I have a student visa and permit valid until 1st July 2019. I transferred to a school in USA and have been studying there since January. Can I use my student visa to enter Canada as a tourist?

Do I have to get a separate tourist visa?

Hey,

Once you transfer to a different institution in a different country, you must immediately notify the CIC about your change in conditions. Because to be on a study permit you should be studying in a DLI (designated learning institute). Since you are not, you must notify the CIC about your change in conditions, which you haven't done yet.

That being said, I think you should now notify the CIC of this change and ask them to give you a tourist visa instead. Do NOT travel to Canada on this study permit as then it will be a violation of your immigration conditions.

You can just e-mail the CIC first and let them know.

Hope this helps.

Thank you!

Can you tell me which email address it is? I couldn't find anything with a quick google search.

I don't know if you have applied on-line or not. But since I know that you are in USA, you can either contact the los angeles office or the new york office.

Los Angeles office address - los-angeles-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca

New York office address - NewYork-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca

Hope this helps.
