Thanks PMM and Rupeshhari

I´m applying under the managers in health care. I´m a manager in dental health for a hospital very well known in my country. I have a dental specialty, I don´t know If this is a bachelor´s degree or If cic will award me 20 or 22 points. I think I better stick for sure to 20 points, right? What do you think?

well, you have to think whether it is a bachelors in your country or not.

Take doctors from India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka. They study for 5 or 6 years but since it is a first degree, they only get 20 points.

Is yours a first degree? what is the degree called? Bachelor of denistry specializing in....?

the final certificate that you get, what does it say on it. Does it use the same word as bachelor or masters in spanish or does it use a different word?

i might not necessarily know the answer but you answering these questions might help others to figure out what you should get.

I can only give you an example but I don't know what the answer is.

In South Africa, one can do a postgraduate diploma in certain subject and this is done after bachelors but it is not the same as masters. Usually, it is half of a masters. In that case, it will not be considered a bachelors or masters.

However, IIT in India offers PGDM instead of an MBA. I am sure (i am guessing) that CIC will accept the PGDM as a MBA.

Do you need the 2 points? if so, go with 22. If you don't then go with 20. Theres always a risk of your application returned but you should decide if that risk is okay.

Gigab,
The question you should be asking is not whether it is considered a Bachelor's degree in Canada or not. The Question is , "what is it considered to be in your country of study. As for immigration purposes, it is the country of study that is relevant.

Note:
However, for work/employment purposes in Canada, your question is justified.

Here take a look at this:

"Education

Definition:

For definition of terms, see Section 6.4.

Officers should assess programs of study and award points based on the standards that exist in
the country of study. The Regulations do not provide for comparisons to Canadian educational
standards;

If the applicant has an educational credential referred to in a particular paragraph in R78(2) but
not the total number of years of study required by that paragraph, officers should award the
number of points set out in the paragraph that refers to the number of years of study completed
by the applicant [R78(4)]."

Hope this helps!!!!

It's under the Education section of OP6e.pdf.
Go to CIC website or search on the forum for the link.
