Can Outland applicant apply for work permit?

I am a Canadian citizen and planning to send in the application once I received the marriage certificate. My husband need to go back to his country to wrap up all his stuff there. Does anybody know if we can submit the work permit application once we received the case number? Or he has to come as a visitor in order to apply?

Work permits are exclusive to inland applicants. You could later apply for a work permit if it was an inland application.

No you cant change mid process.

Thanks. We just got married in April in Canada and my husband flew back to Hong Kong to finish his bachelor degree. He is planning to buy a house this summer and come and wait for the application. If we cannot change in mid process, should he stay in HK instead of coming over to wait?

You guys would have to make that decision based on what you want and what’s best. He can certainly wait in Canada however he won’t be able to work while he is here & he will have to maintain status. He can start working in HK until the application is finalized or you can wait until he completes his bachelors and do an inland application where he will be able to apply for a work permit.
