My husband got his PR back in June. He's been working since then, and is going to school now for 2 months to get his trades certification. He's worked enough hours with his current company to collect EI and all signs point to him being eligible to collect it, but we're not sure if that counts as "welfare" for the purposes of his sponsorship.

So, are we going to have to pay this back if he collects it? He has been paying into EI since he started working, so I'm assuming not, but I definitely wanted to double check before we finalize the application.

Thanks!

Yes - he can collect EI. It's not social assistance.

Thanks, Scylla! I figured it wouldn't be an issue, since he is paying for it just like everyone else. But you can never be too careful!
