Can martial status be Single in docs while applying if divorced

Hi All,

Can a person mention single while applying for Canada PR, if that person does not want to put his spouse name on papers in divorced sceanrio. Is there any background check for marital status?

No - you can't. You have to say you're divorced. Yes - background checks cover this type of information.

CIC OP 18- Evaluating Inadmissibility manual states mentioning as single if you are divorced generally will not constitute to misrepresentation even if they find out in the future that you are divorced before. This falls under the category "mistakes or misunderstanding". It is the same kind of mistake most applicants do similar to indicating the current year as their year of birth; or reverses the date and month of birth on an application form.

I also agree with scylla that it is better to give truthful information in the form unless it happened because of mistake or misunderstanding.
