Hi,

I came here in Canada in Aug'13 along with my spouse. My wife went back to India in Jan'14.
I am planning to apply for Canada PR. Is it possible for me to apply PR only for myself? I dont want to apply for my spouse as of now. In that case do I need to pay only my fees?

Please help.

Thanks,
Shri

Yes you can, but you will not be able to sponsor her at any point in the future for a PR. He/she will have to apply on her own.

You will have to state that you are married and provide a written statement that you understand that you cannot sponsor your spouse at a later time. That being said, it is a better idea to pay her fees and apply for her along with your application.

Yes you can do that by choosing accompanying as "NO" but you will never be able to sponsor her Later .

Yes you may - but if you choose not to now, you can't sponsor them later.

They'd have come the same way you are doing now, by applying for PR on their own

Thanks.

If I apply for myself only and if I get PR, can my spouse and child apply for visitor visa later?

Re: Can married person applied PR only for himself

Mind you, CIC takes marriage and spouses very seriously, you would have to have a good reason for not including a spouse, such as you are getting divorced, or she refuses to be part of the application. (Not wanting to pay the application fee is not a good reason).

You can sponsor her later IF you declare on your application as non-accompanying, she completes the required forms, provides required documents, (including PCCs) and completes the medical exam. You don't pay the application fee for her, but that's the only benefit - if you have ANY intention of having her join you in Canada, it is better to simply include her on the application right from the start. She doesn't have to land right away or stay in Canada after landing (but she does have to live in Canada for 2 of the next 5 years to keep her status).

See p. 11 of the OP 2 -
OP 2 – Processing Members of the Family Class (PDF, 437 KB)

Yes, I know the OP 2 is for Family Class applications, but the OP25A (CEC class) refers to the OP2 on the question of non-accompanying family members...

Thanks a lot.. In this case, I will apply for my wife also. ;D

I have few questions

1. Since my wife is in India and I am applying for her PR along with mine, do I need to get her police verification also?
2. Since currently she is not in Canada but will come here in future, do I need to mention her as accompanying or non-Accompanying?

regardless of where she is, anyone over 18 years of age needs to get a PCC for each country (EXCEPT CANADA) they have lived in for at least 6 months since the age of 18. So at a minimum, you will both need a PCC from your home country.

Accompanying.
