there are 250,000 immigrants in Canada every year. each one pays about $1,000 for the PR application. That's about 250M revenue a year to get people in.
Most immigrants are economic or family. Which means no government financial support.

Trudeau said Canada would take 25,000 refugees at the end of the year and not 10,000. The trip here plus financial settlement support is calculated to be at least $4,000 per person. Total cost $100M. I hope the weed he said he'd make legal will pay for this.
Weed is an entirely different issue, not sure what that has to do with anything, but I would say they'll use general funds for the increased refugees. Highly unlikely they'd use application funds.

General funds? you mean the federal budget? I don't think you understand how economics work if you think you can just grab money without taking it from something else.

General funds as in the general budget, not funds from the applications of other applicants. It can be done and I assume that's what they'll do.

I don't know what you are talking about, there's no such thing as a general budget. There is the federal budget which has already been allocated for 2015 which does not include 25,000 refugees. Do you think the government has a pile of money somewhere where everybody takes at will?

I agree with spoonracoon. it doesnt matter that from where federal got money.they have lots
of sources to get money like taxes, fees.there is no general budget spending system.its doesnt make
sense that you say the money Federal spending on refugees not belongs to CIC fees.

There really isn't an agreement or disagreement to be honest, I think there is a mis-interpretation of what I meant by general funds.

In order to process a great deal more refugee claimants, very quickly during this year, CIC is going to need more funds. What I meant by saying general funds is that they likely won't be using allocated funds from our application fees. General funds is a phrase I used to connotate extra money CIC may receive not related, and in addition to, the funds we pay into the system as non-refugee applicants. I hope this makes it more clear so there isn't any further misinterpretation.

Special cases happen all the time, extra funding items come up all the time in the budget process. Think of natural disasters where they have to come up with the cash... It isn't that big a deal.. I don't run things, I just hope the remainder of our applications are processed without regard to the extra refugee burden.

FWIW, I am fully supportive of bringing more refugees in, I think it is a compassionate thing to do. I just don't want my processing of my application to be affected by it, if they can help it.
