Hi everyone,

Is it legal for me to work while my current work permit has expired and I am still waiting for the CEC file number to apply for the bridging program?

thanks

AFAIK, you are not in "implied" status as you have not applied for any Work Permit yet, hence, it is NOT legal for you to work.

so you mean if I have made my application for work permit extension, it would be legal for me to work?

Its a kind of a grey area, you are considered to be in "implied" status when you have applied for an extension of Work Permit before it expire, however, if you dont satisfy the required criteria for WP extension and trying to use this to gain work experience, it will NOT be considered as a valid work experience.

Why is that you cant work legally here?

No, it isn't, plus the conditions of the bridging permit prevent you from applying after your permit has expired anyway.

If your work permit is about to expire and you still haven't received your AOR, apply anyway. Hopefully the AOR will have been issued by the time they process your application (which could be weeks later especially if it was a paper application).

No, and unfortunately, you are not eligible for the BOWP if your permit has already expired. And yes, if you had applied for the BOWP before your work permit expired, you would be on "implied status," at least until you had received a response from CIC about the BOWP.
