Hi
I'm an international student studying in Canada. Can I work 24 hours a week and 16 hours on another. It's is not possible to get 20 hours work a week exactly anywhere. Anyway the total hours for the month will be 80 ryt so is it possible to do so to compensate the total 80 hours a month by doing 24hours in week and 16 hours in another week. Please let me know

As of June 1, 2014, you may qualify to work off campus without a work permit. If you qualify, your study permit will allow you to:

1.work up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and
2.work full-time during scheduled breaks, such as the winter and summer holidays or spring break

Hi

No, you can't do this. If you work more than 20 hours in a single week, you will be working illegally, regardless of how many hours you work in other weeks.

people seem to always forget the pupose of a study permit is to study not to work. The work part is simply to supplement any available funds hence the limit of 20 hours per week that cannot be accumulated over a month or longer.

If someone wants to do that then fine they know the rules but I guess they should not come back here and complain if they do this over an extended period, get found out, have their study permit cancelled or if not have issues ever applying for a PGWP or PR in future having broken the rules.

Ultimately up to the individual, a one off probably not an issue but over time could have a big negative effect.
