Can I travel outside of Canada if my inland spousal sponsorship is in process?

To anyone who is reading this thread as they're looking to travelling with PR application in progress (or about to start).
Inland applicant must stay with your sponsor throughout the process, not only inside Canada but with your sponsor. You might have a short trip to US as they won't check for visa upon returning. But travel to anywhere else that need a visa for return might risk your PR application if they deny your entry for any reason. It's only a risk but you're the one to decide to take the risk or not.
However, if you're living with your sponsor in Canada but you want/plan to travel after submitting your application, you can opt for Outland option. In this case your application will be processed outside of Canada. The only downside of that is if they need an interview you will have to travel to the assigned visa office which usually is in your home country.

All good information, I'd just note: interviews are a small percentage of applications (that is, not common), and probably even lower amongst couples that are already cohabiting.

In other words, the 'downside' is quite small for those who are already cohabiting in Canada and considering which of the two (outland or inland) based on possibility of travel.

[Side note: all of this and potential differences in timeline even more important for Quebec but I don't know which way the balance of interests lies.]

I assume you mean that the Inland sponsorship applicant must continue to `live' or `reside' with their sponsor. The applicant can leave Canada (for a short trip) without having their sponsor with them...but that would amplify the risk of being allowed to re-enter Canada, IMHO.

Ofcourse. There are several case processing missions inside and outside Canada. Certain nationalities have their home country location for completion of the application if it comes to that stage, and some files flow to other countries according to the backlog too. Mine was completed in London, UK. Imagine if all these millions of applications were ONLY processed within Canada, we'd beat the United States in wait times.
So to answer your question, Yes, it's totally normal.

agreed, it’s a relatively small downside in comparison to the upside that the applicant can travel out of Canada during the process if he has to (provided that his TRV is still valid), the right to appeal and the seem to be shorter processing time
