Hi All,

Will the Intent to Reside clause restricts me from traveling outside Canada for short term? e.g: vacation?

Of course you can travel. The new rules gives more flexibility to travel in the last 6 years you should be here only 4.

There is no law against traveling outside nor inside Canada.

No. You should, however, inform CIC of trips 2 weeks or longer.

I think he is asking for the period before the application.

OP should clarify; there's room for the question to be interpreted both ways.

He is saying after Jun 11th so he means after the law not after he submitted application.

Just be able to prove it was a vacation and you didn't abandon your Canadian residence, if it comes up. But Liberal government probably won't enforce intent to reside clause anyway.

For what it's worth, my wife and I submitted our application in early May (so it doesn't apply totally to your situation), and went on a 3-month vacation the next day. We didn't notify CIC. Our citizenship test was in late October, and we're both at Decision Made now, so I guess it didn't slow things up too much. If challenged, we would have told them the truth -- the fact that I was on parental leave gave us a chance that we would never have again to visit my wife's family (where we used to live) for an extended period. I had a job to come back to, and of course our house.
