Can I still in work in Canada with a Student visa that says I'm not eligible too

My student visa is for an open studies program which does not lead to a degree. I plan on eventually getting into a program that does while in open studies, but as of right now my visa says that I cannot work. Is there a way I can get a job in Canada though? Or do I have to wait until I get accepted into a full time program that leads to a degree
