Can I start my work training before my classes begin?

Hey guys so I'll be going to canada on a study permit and my classes won't start till the 2nd week of january. I'm actually planning to come there a week before new year. So my sister's friend who's the manager of a coffeeshop is planning to hire me. My question is, can I start my training even before my classes start? Thanks
