Hi! I have used this blog so much in my journey with my husband in moving to Canada, but I need help again!!! We landed in October 2011, and we want Luke's parents to move here with his younger brother. Now here's the bit I need help with...Jack is 24, he is in university and is a full time student, can we apply (when it re-opens in November 2013) to sponsor all 3 of them to become permanent residents? With jack coming through as a full time student dependant on his parents?? My worry is that if there is still a backlog of applications when family sponsorship opens back up, what happens if half way through the process jack completes his course, so technically wouldn't be a student when he lands in Canada, can we still do it this way?? I'm anxious because there doesn't seem to be any other way to get him here, his skills aren't on the wanted list to come over as a skilled worker, and the only other option seems to be a 1 year working visa, but when thats finished he would go home and he would be the only family member left in England with his parents and brother in Canada??? Can anyone help me out with this or point me in the right direction as to who I could talk to in Canada to try and find out?? Thank you so much.

Your brother must remain a full time student and your parents' dependent until the PR visa is approved and he lands in Canada (even if this takes years). If he stops going to school full time he will be dropped from the application. If he does not want to remain in school full time for this length of time, then as you've mentioned, he will have to find a way to qualify to immigrate independently.

Ok, it's so tough as I don't know how long the process will take once it re-opens, I know that prior to closing it down it was taking upwards of 4 years in some cases, which if it is still going to be the same kind of timelines when it opens up again he will have finished school or sure! Is it only the skilled worker visa that would be available to him? Is there any other visa?? He would need to work...like can he just simply apply to move here??

He could do IEC on his own, and that would give him 12 months to work in Canada. If he finds somewhere where his employer really needs him, then he could ask his employer to give him a LMO once the IEC visa is about to finish... and then once he has the required experience, he could apply through Canada Experience Class - see here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp

or - you hope he meets a nice Canadian girl once in Canada and get sponsored by her under family sponsorship! :)
Maybe look at the Provincial Nominee programs, per province... there are lots of different options!
Good luck,

Hi Nicolap

No one is sure if they will reopen parents sponsorship in Nov, 2013 again as there is still a huge backlog and mid 2009>2011 apps still have to get approvals
Also, make sure to follow http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/parents-sponsership-joine-here-t91654.11625.html as lot of apps are being questioned on the courses taken my dependents, officer has doubts to whether its genuine or not

Thank you all for the info! Do you know if they separate family applications by country, like they do spousal? I was just wondering if the backlogs for family sponsorship may vary depending which country you are applying from?!
