My boyfriend lives in Afghanistan and I live in Canada. Unfortunately we can only meet in other countries due to the circumstances and troubles in Afghanistan. Can I sponsor him to visit or live here? He would like to visit first and then apply to live here after returning to Afghanistan.

He will need to qualify for a TRV on his own merits. You can send an invitation letter - however he will need to show that he has the funds to pay for his trip here and also demonstrate strong ties to his home country to prove he has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. IRCC will refuse the TRV if they feel there is a strong possibility he has plans to remain in Canada long term. I would recommend he keep his trip short (2-3 weeks at most). He should show proof of ties if possible such as employment, property ownership, assets, etc.

EDIT: Just to add - you won't be able to sponsor him for PR (to live here) until you are either married or common law. Common law means you have lived together for at least one year continuously.
